Sina is the Owner, Founder & Club Director at SoCal Legends Volleyball Club. He is a San Fernando Valley native who attended Taft High School where he played under Head Coach Arman Mercado who he considers a mentor. Sina played Libero at the Division 1 level at the University of Hawaii & at Cal State University of Northridge under coaches Charlie Wade & Jeff Campbell. He is also the Head Coach for the Girls & Boys Varsity Program at Chatsworth Charter HS where he has won 6 City Championships & been named Coach of the Year six times! Most recently, Sina has been named an AVCA Thirty Under 30 Award Receipent awarded to the top coaches under the age of 30 in the nation in 2021 and he was also named the NFHS California State Coach of the year in 2022!! He is currently a Math Teacher in the Chatsworth G+Steam Magnet and is married to his wife Kristin Aghassy with his daughter Ariana.
After playing he began coaching and discovered a new understanding & passion for the game. His commitment to doing things the right way, in life and in volleyball, makes him an excellent role model for aspiring young athletes. His coaching career began at Poly HS, guiding his teams to the Playoffs every year since he started in 2012. He then moved onto assisting at Taft HS in 2014, helping guide the Toreaders to a CIF LA City Championship with the girls. Sina was hired at Chatsworth HS in 2015 as the Boys & Girls Varsity Head Coach. He helped lead Chatsworth to City Championships in both 2015 & 2016 becoming the first coach in school history to ever win both a Girls & Boys Championship within the same year. He then lead the Chatsworth Girls back to a City Championship in 2017 & 2019. Aghassy most recently led the Chatsworth boys program to the 2021 & 2023 CIF LA City Open Division Championship marking his 5th and 6th championships at the school. Now he steps into a new chapter of providing an innovative and progressive volleyball club to the San Fernando Valley area... and couldn't be more thrilled about it! |
Jana Harper

Jana Harper brings efficiency and accuracy to her role as the primary administrative figure for SoCal Legends VBC. Jana's impressive background in the world of education & organization, combined with her knowledge of all things club volleyball after more than ten years experience brings so much value to our club. She has many years of experience with both her children playing both high school and club volleyball, as she offers a unique perspective on communication for our parents within the club. Her attention to detail is unparalleled as she does her best to take as much off the plates of our families and coaches so they can focus on the game the love!
She has overseen the growth of the club since 2019 where it saw 5 teams grow to 8 teams during the COVID season of 2020 and seamslessly doubling in size in 2021 to 16 total teams!! Her attention to detail and effective communication has allowed the club to grow seamlessly over the years. Just from 2022 to 2023, SoCal Legends grew by another 8 teams to 24 total, and without her efforts, the club would not be where it is at today!! |
Theo Edwards
TECHNICAL DIRECTOR | RECRUITING COORDINATOR
Theo Edwards joins SoCal Legends VBC as the Technical Director overseeing coaching development, practices & college recruitment for the club. He is currently the Head Coach at Cal Satate University of Northridge while coaching 10 years as an assistant for the Matadors. Edwards, who played for the Matadors from 2006-2010, earned a Silver Medal as an assistant with USA Volleyball at the 2014 Pan Am Cup and also served as an assistant for USA Volleyball's Youth National Team at the 2017 World Championships in Bahrain. Theo has also spent several seasons coaching club volleyball, most recently with Bones Volleyball Club in Thousand Oaks from 2015-18.
A 2010 graduate of CSUN, Edwards had his finest season as a senior in 2010 as the Matadors reached the NCAA Tournament semifinals. He led the team with 379 kills and a 3.32 kills per game average as the Matadors finished the season 23-10. A five-time Dean's List honoree from 2006-2010 as well as a CSUN Varsity "N" academic recipient from 2006-2010, he earned his bachelor of arts degree in Behavioral Sciences in 2010. He and his wife Kate have two children, Oliver and Rain and reside in Northridge. Theo brings a depth of experience, knowledge & ability into the gym. We are so excited to add a coach of his caliber into our club & family as he will be such a valuable addition to our entire club & family! |
Gabriel Ylo

Coach Gabe Ylo joins the SC Legends staff after playing as a setter at University High School. He then became the Head Coach at Vaughn High School where he led the boys program to a City Championship in 2019 in Division 3. He was also selected as the Division 3 Coach of the Year that same season. He brings an approach that is enthusiastic, energetic, and creates great relationships with his players.
Coach Gabe graduated from the University of La Verne where he got his Teaching Credential. Previously, Coach Gabe coached at Exult VBC where he was the Boys Club Director leading their top high school teams. He is currently a Special Education Teacher at Vaughn High School where he still coaches the Boys Volleyball Program. He is excited to join the SoCal Legends Staff this season on the girls side as he hopes to bring his enthusiatic passion for the game to the players to create a positive environment to the club! In 2023, he brought home the first Open Division Medal at AAU National Championships where his Boys 13-Elite team brought home the Bronze. While doing well on the court, that same year, Gabe was named the Assistant Director to oversee and promote the clubs growth. We are excited to see him continue to develop his passion within the club on and off the court!! |
JUlianna SOuisa

Julianna Souisa has a diverse work experience in various roles and positions. Julianna started her career in 2011 at Chaminade College Preparatory as Girls Varsity Assistant and Boys JV Head Coach. She then moved on to Chatsworth High School in 2013 as the Head Coach for Girls and Boys Volleyball Programs. At Los Angeles Volleyball Academy (LAVA), she held multiple roles including Director of Summer Programs, LAVA Lite Program Director, Division Manager/Assistant Director, Assistant to the Directors/Executive Assistant, and Head Coach for LAVA South. Julianna also worked at Surfside Volleyball Club as the Surfside-SO Volleyball Club Director & Coach. In 2017, she joined LA Premier Water Polo Club as the Administrator and LA Breakers FC as the Marketing and Communications Manager. From 2014 to 2022, Julianna worked at Harvard-Westlake School in various roles including Teacher, 10th Grade Human Development Teacher, Executive Assistant to the Head of Athletics, and 7th Grade Library and Technology Teacher. Most recently, in 2022, they joined Laurence School as the Executive Assistant to the Head of School.
Julianna Souisa began their education at Los Angeles Pierce College in 2009 and completed their studies there in 2012. Afterward, they attended Hope International University for a year in 2012-2013. Later, they enrolled at California State University, Northridge, and obtained their Bachelor's Degree in Sociology between 2013 and 2015. In 2016-2017, Julianna pursued a Master's Degree in Coaching and Athletic Administration at Concordia University Irvine. She now joins SoCal Legends family on the administration side to help foster the growth of the club year in and year out!! |
CJ Suarez

CJ Suarez has been a staple on both the boys and girls side at SC Legends VBC as he also oversees Player Development this upcoming season with all clinics, tryouts and privates. CJ is currently the Head Girls Volleyball Coach at Chaminade High School in West Hills as of 2022. Most recently, he was an Assistant Coach for both the Cal State University Northridge Women's & Men's Volleyball team. He has coached numerous elite teams at the 18's and 17's age groups on both the boys and girls sides. Before stepping into the collegiate ranks coaching; CJ was played professionally in the VLA for Phoenix Ascension and RUKKUS as a libero, coached the CSUN Mens Club Team, along with being a PT Aide too. CJ was a former standout at the Division 1 level where he played Libero at CSUN from 2014-2017 for the Matadors. He has a wealth of knowledge from playing professionally, Division 1 volleyball and now from his different coaching experiences.
A 2012 graduate from Verdugo Hills HS, Suarez earned three varsity letters in volleyball for the Dons. He played outside hitter for coach William Reinhart as he earned first team All-East Valley League honors in both 2011 and 2012. He was named league MVP in 2012 as his team won the East Valley championship. CJ brings a depth of commitment, knowledge & experience into the gym. He is going to be a very valuable piece for our club and the Legends family! |
Alex Barr
Boys PROGRAM COORDINATOR | Boys 14-Elite Head Coach

Coach Barr, now in his third season with Socal Legends and ninth overall in club coaching, boasts a successful career marked by numerous achievements. Originating from coaching the Thousand Oaks High School Boys Junior Varsity teams, where he secured multiple Marmonte League titles, Barr's expertise extends to his assistant role with the Moorpark College Men’s Volleyball Team, achieving multiple state tournament appearances and aiding player transfers to four-year universities. At Socal Legends, his leadership led to multiple medals, including a recent Bronze at the AAU National Championships in the 13 - Open division, placing his team in the top three nationally. His inaugural year at Legends saw him guide the Boys 15 Elite Team to a Bronze Medal at the USAV Boys Nationals.
Beyond Legends, Coach Barr's influence extends to Sports Academy Volleyball Club, Rise Volleyball Club, and Bones Volleyball Club, where his teams received national recognition, achieving top ten national finishes in various divisions. His commitment to player development is evident in his work with dozens of athletes who went on to play at the college level. Currently coaching the girls’ varsity team at Cleveland High School, Barr, also a Special Education teacher, propelled the team to the Open Division in the CIF City Section and secured two CIF State playoff victories in his first year, setting a precedent for the school's volleyball program. Eager to continue shaping young talent at both Cleveland and Socal Legends, Coach Barr looks forward to further accomplishments for both programs. |
Alex Sanchez
BOYS 16-ELITE | GIRLS 15-ELITE HEAD COACH
Alex Sanchez has been playing & coaching the game of volleyball for over 12 years now. After playing for Head Coach Cooper Chavez at Notre Dame HS & at the Santa Monica Beach Club (SMBC), he moved onto play collegiately at Pierce College & Ottawa University. After playing collegiately, Alex began his coaching career at Elite VBC in Chatsworth along with assisting & doing JV at Chatsworth HS. He has helped assist the Chancellors to 5 Championships in the CIF LA City Section, while developing players skills throughout the years. Since 2019, Alex has coached the Boys 16-Elite along with the Girls 17-Elite teams guiding them to top finishes in the SCVA. He has seen success bringing home the first BJNC medal to SoCal Legends when he brough home Silver with his Boys 16-Elite in 2022! He absolutely loves the sport & was taught by great coaches and players who have given him the tools and inspiration to teach the game of volleyball. Now after coaching for Chatsworth HS for the few years, he will now be continuing that legacy of success at SoCal Legends! |
Arnel Skillman
GIRLS 18-ELITE AND GIRLS 17-GOLD ASSISTANT COACH | BOYS 15-GOLD HEAD COACH
Arnel Skillman joined the SoCal Legends Staff in 2021 where he has been a valuable elite assistant as well as head coaches on a wide range of aged teams! Currently, Arnel is the Volunteer Assistant Coach at California State University Northridge for the Division 1 Mens Program. Arnel is the also currently JV Head Coach at Granada Hills Charter HS, where he has had tons of success in the West Valley League since 2020. He has won a handful of league championships at the junior varsity level, while helping develop a lot of players at the Varsity level. He has helped guide the Highlanders to a couple Runner-Up finishes in the CIF LA City Section since starting in 2019.
Arnel was also a standout as a libero at Moorpark Community College before moving to CSUN to study Kinesiology. Arnel prepped at Granada Hills Charter HS where he played libero for Head Coach Tom Harp. He also played club volleyball at Westedge where he earned a Gold Medal from the 2018 USA Volleyball Boys Junior National Championships! From playing and coaching in high school along with club, he is so pumped to bring his perspective of enthusiastic coaching style to SoCal Legends VBC! |
Haress "BARS" Malal
GIRLS 16-ELITE HEAD COACH | BOYS 17-ELITE ASSISTANT COACH
Haress Malal, also known as Coach "Bars", has been with SoCal Legends VBC since 2019. He is no stranger to the sport of volleyball, combining for almost 15 years of playing & coaching experience. He started off playing at Taft HS where he was selected as the City Player of the Year in 2007 as a Runner-Up his Senior year. After playing for Coach Mercado, he continued his education at Cal State Northridge receiving a Biology Degree while still playing & coaching at Taft. He was the Boys JV Coach from 2010-2015 before focusing on his career. In 2019 he was the Boys 16-Elite Head Coach before moving to coach Boys 18-Elite in 2020. In 2021 he has moved to help out on the girls side where he becomes the Girls 16-Elite Head Coach. Now he is making a comeback towards coaching with SC Legends and creating a culture of attention to detail & spreading the love for the game he shows every time he is in the gym!
In 2023, Coach Bars led his Girls 16-Elite team to a #1 ranking in the SCVA 16's division while also guiding 4 players on his first club team to college offers to play at the next level. Coach Bars is best known for his humor and jokes on the court while making everyone smile; yet demanding the most from his players. We are looking forward to the future years of SoCal Legends with Coach Bars patroling the sidelines!! |
Emily Rizzi
GIRLS 14-ELITE HEAD COACH
Emily Rizzi grew up near Detroit, MI and was a dedicated volleyball player at Eisenhower HS and participated in the national club circuit with Michigan Elite Volleyball. She started her volleyball career as a setter and ended as a decorated Libero earning first team all defense for her Region. Emily took a break from playing volleyball in college while perusing her degree in Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Michigan, but her passion for volleyball did not diffuse and she had a goal to continue with the sport coaching.
She was able to do so when starting her career in Wisconsin. Coaching a season as JV Coach at West Depere High School, and Freedom High School, as well as being head coach of 15-1s (2018-2020) for Wisconsin Blaze Volleyball Academy. Emily’s career with P&G Operations took her across the country to the LA area in 2021 and she joined the SoCal Family! Emily is a high energy, passionate, and focused coach. She values mental and physical toughness and focuses on building both of those skills with her teams. She also believes a strong understanding of fundamental skills is critical for all players to be their best beyond their position on the court! We are so excited to have her on board at SC Legends VBC!! |
Romeo Carballo
GIRLS 15-GOLD HEAD COACH | GIRLS 18-GOLD ASSISTANT COACH
Romeo Carballo, a 2016 graduate of Birmingham High School, excelled as a volleyball player, playing a key role in securing a Division 1 title for the Birmingham girls' as a varsity assistant coach. In 2021, he earned a degree in Kinesiology with a focus on Physical Education from California State University, Northridge (CSUN), seamlessly transitioning into the role of a Physical Education teacher and Athletics Assistant at Birmingham High School. With eight years of coaching experience in both boys' and girls' high school volleyball, Romeo pioneered the establishment of the beach volleyball program at Birmingham, reflecting his innovative and forward-thinking approach to sports. Beyond high school, Romeo's coaching journey thrived as he provided valuable assistance to the CSUN club team, contributing to its growth and success. He also dedicated three years to SoCal Legends, imparting his knowledge and passion for volleyball. Romeo's extensive experience underscores not only his profound understanding of the sport but also his unwavering dedication to creating a positive and enriching environment for athletes at all developmental stages. |
Nicole Nevarez
GIRLS 14-GOLD HEAD COACH | BOYS 14-GOLD HEAD COACH
Nicole Nevarez joins the SC Legends Staff this season as an assistant on the Girls 18-Elite team. Nicole is a standout Outside Hitter at the Division 1 level playing at Cal Sate University Northridge under Jeff Stork. Before playing at CSUN, Nevarez competed in both volleyball and track and field at Los Osos High School in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. Nicole lead the Grizzlies to a 20-12 record as a senior in 2017 and led the team with 357 kills on .293 hitting in 2017. She was an All-Inland Valley second team selection and earned first-team All-Baseline League honors as an outside hitter following the 2015 and 2016 seasons. Nicole was also named team MVP in 2015 and 2016 and graduated in 2018 with a 4.33 grade point average, earning California Scholastic Federation honors. Coach Nicole looks forward to bringing all her experiences from high school, club and college to the Girls 18-Elite as a coach this season!

Donaldo "Donny" Morales
BOYS 16-GOLD HEAD COACH | GIRLS 17-GOLD HEAD COACH
Donaldo Morales joins the SC Legends VBC staff in 2021, as he moves over from Valley Volleyball Club. Donaldo, otherwise known as Coach Donny, is currently the head coach of the Boys and Girls program at John F. Kennedy High School in Granada Hills. He was also the founder and creator of Valley Volleyball Club where he developed players across the San Fernando Valley. Morales is one of the youngest tenured coaches in the valley, as he started coaching at JFK since the age of 18. While at Kennedy, Morales has helped guide the Cougars to success, winning 2 CIF LA City Section Championships, while also having his teams compete at the highest division in the City Section. Coach Donny brings a technical mindset and a level of physical and technical understanding on the court. From all his success at the high school level, it will be valuable to have Donny in the gym with SoCal Legends Volleyball Club! |
Jon Souisa
BOYS 18-ELITE HEAD COACH | GIRLS 17-ELITE ASSISTANT COACH
Jonathan Souisa's coaching journey is a testament to his passion for sports and commitment to player development. Beginning his coaching career after an impressive stint as the Player of the Year at his HS in 2009. Continuing his volleyball career at LA Pierce College from 2009 to 2011 and subsequently playing at Hope International in 2011-2012, Souisa has seamlessly transitioned into a dedicated mentor and leader. His coaching experience is vast and varied, showcasing his versatility and expertise. Souisa has held prominent roles such as the Chaminade College Prep JV Boys Head Coach, Chaminade College Prep Frosh Girls Head Coach, and Los Angeles Volleyball Academy coach. His impact extends to LA Pierce College, where he volunteered as an assistant coach for the State Championship-winning team. Souisa's coaching journey also includes leadership roles at prestigious institutions like Harvard-Westlake High School, where he served as the Frosh Boys Head Coach, JV Girls Head Coach, and ultimately, the Boys Program Head. His dedication to player development and success is further evident through his involvement with Surfside Volleyball Club, solidifying Jonathan Souisa's position as a respected figure in the world of volleyball coaching. |
Oscar Catalan
BOYS 16-BLACK HEAD COACH | GIRLS 16-BLACK HEAD COACH
Oscar Catalan joins the SoCal Legends VBC staff after playing for three seasons at Chatsworth High School. He was CIF Los Angeles City Runner-Up in the Open Division during the 2018 season under Club Director Sina Aghassy. He is currently a student at Pierce College studying Foreign Language.
Most recently, he has been the Chatsworth High School Freshman/Sophomore Coach and has helped assist on both the Junior Varsity and Varsity side of things for the Boys & Girls. He is currently the Varsity Beach Coach at Chatsworth HS. While learning a lot during his experiences, he is exctied to bring that to our club and continue to grow as a coach! |
Ubaldo Aguilera
GIRLS 18-GOLD HEAD COACH | BOYS 17-GOLD ASSISTAND COACH
Ubaldo Aguilera is a dedicated coach who joined SoCal Legends VBC in 2021, bringing a wealth of experience and success to our team. Hailing from Sylmar High School, Ubaldo's passion for the sport ignited early, culminating in a City Championship victory in 2019. Continuing his volleyball journey, he showcased his talent at Hope International before transferring to Moorpark to complete his education. Currently serving as an assistant coach at Chaminade High School, Ubaldo played a pivotal role in guiding the Eagles to a Division 3 State Championship in 2023. Since joining SoCal Legends VBC, he has been an integral part of our staff, demonstrating exceptional coaching prowess and leadership. Ubaldo's versatility has seen him take on head coaching responsibilities for our 18-Gold and 17-Gold teams, where his expertise and dedication continue to elevate our players to new heights of success! |
Stella Hochberg
GIRLS 13-ELITE ASSISTANT COACH
Stella Hochberg joins the SoCal Legends VBC family as a current student at California State University Northridge as a Sociology major. Stella prepped at Bishop Alemany High School where she played both Libero and Defensive Specialist. She played club volleyball at Supernova Volleyball Club where she has over 9+ years of experience playing.
Most recently, she attended Moorpark College where she just finished up her Associates Degree. This season at SoCal Legends, she joins us a Co-Head Coach on Girls 13-Elite where her team has grown a ton in just a short period of time! Stella is a very patient and caring coach that is very supportive of all her players. We are so excited to add her on our staff, as we can't wait to continue to watch her grow into a phenomenal coach! |
Antonia "Toni" Gomez
GIRLS 16-WHITE HEAD COACH | GIRLS 11-ELITE CO-HEAD COACH
Antonia Gomez, affectionately known as Toni, joined SoCal Legends VBC in 2021, infusing some of our youngest teams her passion and expertise. A standout setter at Immaculate Heart HS, Toni honed her skills and developed into an all-around player during her time at Elite Volleyball Club. Her dedication to the sport and leadership abilities were evident from the start. Currently pursuing her Masters in Occupational Therapy at USC, Toni continues to balance her academic pursuits with her love for volleyball. Since joining SoCal Legends VBC, she has been an indispensable part of our staff, demonstrating exceptional coaching prowess. As head coach for our 12-Elite and 11-Elite teams, Toni has guided our players to flourish in the SCVA ranks, showcasing her ability to inspire and develop young talent on their journey to success. |
Taylan "TC" Cook
BOYS 14-ELITE ASSISTANT COACH | BOYS 16-ELITE ASSISTANT COACH
Taylan "TC" Cook joins the SoCal Legends family as a staple in the back row at California State University Northridge. TC was the starting libero at CSUN before transferring there from Loyola Chicago. He was a two-year letterwinner at Sage Creek High School in Carlsbad, Calif. where he played at Coast VBC. He was an AVCA first team All-American, an honorable mention Volleyball Magazine All-American as well as a Fab-50 selection as a senior libero in 2019. TC was also named CIF/San Diego Section Libero of the Year. While being a player that has accomplished so much, he has recently been coaching at Sunshine Volleyball Club on the girls side from 2019 to current while joining the Boys Side with SoCal Legends. He is a valuable asset to our program as he brings a wealth of knowledge from all the parts of the country he has played & coached the game! |
Joe Arechiga
BOYS 18-GOLD HEAD COACH
In 2023, SoCal Legends VBC welcomed Joe Arechiga to their coaching staff. Joe is a dedicated person with an extensive volleyball background. Hailing from Verdugo Hills, Joe showcased his skills as an All-City outside hitter under the guidance of Coach Will Reinhart. He continued his volleyball journey at Pierce College before concluding his education at USC. Currently, Joe leads the Pierce Men's Volleyball Program as head coach, demonstrating his aptitude for leadership and coaching. He is also currently a teacher on campus at Verdugo Hills HS where he helps out with the boys and girls HS varsity programs! Since joining SoCal Legends VBC, he has played a pivotal role in the success of our 18-Gold boys' team, showcasing his ability to mentor and develop young talent. With a remarkable track record as both a player and a coach, he is ready to continue his impact on developing athletes at our club! |
Ben martinez
BOYS 12-ELITE CO-HEAD COACH | BOYS 14-GOLD ASSISTANT COACH
Ben Martinez, a proud Legends alumni, returned to his roots by joining SoCal Legends VBC in 2023, bringing with him a wealth of experience and a deep connection to the club. Graduating in 2022, Ben's journey as a standout libero began at Legends where he played on Sina Aghassy's 18-Elite team, making an impact as early as his sophomore year in 2019. As a day one legend, Ben witnessed and contributed to the growth and success of the club since its inception. During his high school career at Taft High School in Woodland Hills, California, Ben cemented his reputation as a formidable libero. Named first-team All-City Section and West Valley League Most Valuable Player in his senior year, Ben's exceptional talent and leadership were evident. His consistent performance earned him first-team City Section honors in 2021 and second-team honors in 2020, showcasing his dedication and skill on the court. As he embarks on his journey with SoCal Legends VBC, Ben's expertise and dedication to the sport will undoubtedly inspire and mentor the next generation of volleyball players. With aspirations to study cell and molecular biology, Ben's intellectual curiosity mirrors his passion for volleyball, embodying the values of hard work, determination, and continuous growth. |
Eric Kay
BOYS 17-BLACK HEAD COACH | BOYS 15-ELITE ASSISTANT COACH | GIRLS 15-BLACK ASSISTANT COACH
Eric Kay is a distinguished individual who has demonstrated excellence in both academics and athletics. Graduating in 2009, Eric embarked on his journey at CSUN, where he pursued a degree in Communications. During his collegiate years, Eric's passion for sports and dedication to excellence were evident as he played an integral role in the SMBC Elite Teams for four years. His commitment to the sport extended beyond the collegiate level, as he proudly represented the USA on the Global Challenge team in 2008, competing in Germany, Austria, Italy, and Slovenia. Post-graduation, Eric transitioned seamlessly into the professional arena, establishing himself as an accomplished professional in the entertainment industry. Drawing on his Communication degree, he found success as an Account Manager specializing in TV/Film Set Lighting. Additionally, Eric took on leadership roles as the Legends Head Coach and Calabasas HS Head Coach, showcasing not only his athletic prowess but also his ability to inspire and lead others. Kevin Moore's volleyball journey is a tapestry of achievements and contributions that exemplify his multifaceted talent and commitment to the sport. In 2016, he showcased his prowess as an Outside Hitter for Polytechnic High School, earning accolades such as a spot on the All-City 2nd Team and the prestigious East Valley League Player of the Year. Beyond the court, Kevin continued his pursuit of excellence, graduating from The Master's University in 2022 with a degree in Liberal Studies Education, reflecting his dedication to both academics and athletics. Post-graduation, Kevin transitioned seamlessly into the role of a teacher at Chatsworth High School, where he not only imparts knowledge but also instills values in the students he guides. Simultaneously, his passion for volleyball led him to the coaching arena, where he became an assistant coach last year at SoCal Legends volleyball club, and now taking a head coaching role. |
Owen Douphner

Welcoming back Owen Douphner to SoCal Legends VBC! An esteemed alumnus from the class of 2023, Owen brings a wealth of experience and talent to our staff. During his time with SoCal Legends, Owen was a key player on the 18-Elite team, earning notable achievements like the Chi-Town Challenge Bronze Medal and selection to the SoCal Cup Showcase All-Tournament Team under Club Director Sina Aghassy. At Hart High School, Owen's prowess as an outside hitter led to impressive accolades, including CIF and Foothill League Player of the Year awards. His leadership and skill were pivotal in securing the Foothill League and CIF Division 4 championship. Owen's dedication extends beyond the court, as he excelled academically, maintaining the highest GPA in 2022. Geraldine Martinez

Join us in welcoming Geraldine Martinez to the coaching staff at SoCal Legends Volleyball Club! A graduate of Chatsworth High School, Geraldine brings a wealth of experience and winning spirit to our program. As a four-time CIF LA All City Player and CIF Player of the Year, Geraldine was instrumental in securing the Chancellors City Championship in 2019 under Head Coach Sina Aghassy. Geraldine has been a standout member of SoCal Legends since its inception in 2019, embodying the club's values as a proud alumna and day one Legend. Transitioning to collegiate volleyball at Mission College, Geraldine's passion and expertise make her an excellent addition to our coaching staff. We're excited to have her on board to coach the Girls 14-Gold and 16-Black teams in 2023, where her leadership will foster the growth and success of our athletes. |
Danica Littaua
GIRLS 17-GOLD ASSISTANT | GIRLS 16-ELITE ASSISTANT | GIRLS 14-BLACK ASSISTANT COACH
Danica Littaua is a dedicated and accomplished individual whose journey in the world of volleyball began at a young age, ultimately shaping her into a seasoned athlete and coach. Graduating in 2019, she garnered a wealth of experience over eight years, with a significant presence at Taft High School throughout her high school years, and contributing significantly to Club Koa. Her prowess on the court was evident as she specialized in playing and training as both an Outside Hitter (OH) and Middle Blocker (MB). Notably, during the 2018 season, Danica played a pivotal role in leading her team to the CIF Runner Up title in the Open Division, showcasing her exceptional skills under the guidance of coach Arman Mercado.
Continuing her pursuit of excellence, Danica pursued an Associates Degree at Pierce Community College before seamlessly transferring to California State University, Northridge (CSUN), where she recently graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Biology BA in the spring of 2023. Serving as the Assistant Coach for both girls and boys at Taft High School for two years, she expanded her coaching endeavors by initiating her involvement in club coaching in 2023. In 2023 fall season with Taft Girls Volleyball, Danica helped led Taft HS to a CIF Runner Up title in the open Division as a varsity assistant coach. At the same time, Danica has delved into the pharmaceutical sector, illustrating her commitment to multifaceted professional growth and development. |
Cheyenne Bledsoe
Girls 16-Gold Assistant Coach
Cheyenne Bledsoe joins SoCal Legends VBC as she is currently the Granada Hills Charter HS Girls Volleyball Head Coach. A graduate of Chatsworth High School and Glendale Community College, Cheyenne's journey in the sport was enriched by her time playing under Coach Ybarra's mentorship at Glendale. Her dedication led her to earn a BA in sociology from Cal State Northridge, further fueling her commitment to the game.
In 2018, Cheyenne's started her coaching journey as she led Dorsey High School's volleyball team to the CIF City Section Divisional Championship finals for the first time in school history. Her outstanding leadership earned her the prestigious title of Division V Coach of the Year. Beyond her accomplishments on the indoor court, Cheyenne's coaching endeavors extended to the beach volleyball scene, where she volunteered in the inaugural 2019 Glendale Beach Volleyball season. Cheyenne remains dedicated to empowering her players to excel both academically and athletically. We are very excited to have her apart of our club as she, embodies the values of dedication, resilience, and leadership that we hope for all our coaches! |
Bryan Bran
GIRLS 15-White Head Coach | GIRLS 16 + 17-ELITE ASSISTANT | Boys 16-Elite Co-Head Coach
Bryan Bran, a 2012 graduate of Van Nuys High School and 2020 graduate of Saint Mary’s College of California, is a volleyball coach renowned for his player development skills. With coaching experience at Pasadena City College, Van Nuys High School, Cesar Chavez Learning Academies, and Campolindo High School from 2012 to 2021, Bryan has demonstrated leadership and adaptability in the volleyball coaching arena.
In 2019, he expanded his impact as the Student Manager for the Saint Mary’s College women’s volleyball team. Transitioning to the collegiate level in 2022, Bryan served as Volunteer Assistant and Technical Coordinator for the UC Davis women’s volleyball team. He has seen time as an Assistant Coach for the Pasadena City College women’s volleyball team in 2023 along with experiences with the San Diego Mojo, a professional Womens Volleyball Team. Currently Bryan does Data Volley for both the Womens and Mens side at CSUN at the Division 1 level! |
Vinny Harris
Boys 18-GOld Assistant Coach
Vinny Harris, a standout athlete from John Burroughs High School, dedicated four years to the school's athletic program. During this time, he earned accolades such as "Pacific League 2x Winner" and a spot on the SoCal Legends Club for one year. Continuing his athletic journey, Vinny spent an additional year at Pierce College, contributing to a nationally-ranked team that secured a place in the Top 10. Recognized as a "First Team All Pacific League" player, Vinny's sportsmanship and skill set him apart. Currently attending Pierce College as a Kinesiology student, Vinny also serves as a Student Worker at the college. Despite being in his first year of coaching, he brings valuable experience, having previously assisted at his old high school and club. Vinny's dedication to both academics and athletics reflects his commitment to excellence in all aspects of his life. |
Fernando Acero
Girls 16-White Assistant Coach
Fernando Acero graduated from Sylmar Charter high school in 2022. His passion for volleyball ignited during his sophomore year, leading him to excel in the sport. Post-high school, he continued his volleyball journey at Moorpark College. Notably, in 2021, Fernando's team made a remarkable appearance in the CIF City Section Division 1 Finals earning All City First-Team. Currently pursuing a degree in Kinesiology and Exercise Science at Moorpark College, Fernando is balancing academic pursuits with his athletic endeavors, he embodies the spirit of a dedicated student-athlete, determined to explore the intersection of sports and science. Julian Soto
Girls 14-White Head Coach
Julian Soto joins the SoCal Legends Volleyball Club coaching staff with five years of volleyball experience. He started playing in his junior year at Chatsworth High School, where he won a CIF Open Division City Championship in 2021 under club director Sina Aghassy. He has also played for two years at Pierce College and one year with NAGVA.
Julian has consistently been involved in open gyms, colleges, and various volleyball events. He has a younger brother, Kado Soto, who currently plays for the SoCal Legends Volleyball Club. Julian is excited to help players improve and achieve success in tournaments, including nationals. |
Tsari Bermudez
Girls 11-Elite Head Coach
Tsari Bermudez brings a wealth of experience to the SoCal Legends Volleyball Club coaching staff. She played four years at Chatsworth High School under club director Sina Aghassy, winning a CIF Division 1 City Championship and earning All-City honors. Tsari has been coaching at SoCal Legends since 2021, where she has coached both 11-Elite and 12-Elite teams, and is entering her third year. She also coaches freshman volleyball at Chatsworth High School.

Boys 17-Gold Assistant Coach
Christopher "CJ" Blankenship joins the SoCal Legends Volleyball Club coaching staff with a strong volleyball background. He played four years at Chatsworth High School, where he was coached by club director Sina Aghassy, and continued his volleyball journey with SoCal Legends, playing two years on 18-elite as a Legends alumni under Aghassy.
After high school, CJ played for one year at UC Merced. Currently working towards becoming an electrician, Cj is excited to bring his experience and passion for volleyball to the SoCal Legends team, helping players grow both on and off the court. |
Emanuel "Manny" Wandji Tchakoumi
Boys 18-Black Assistant Coach
Emmanuel "Manny" Wandji Tchakoumi joins the SoCal Legends Volleyball Club coaching staff with seven years of volleyball experience. He played for Tesoro High School, leading the team to a CIF D2 Championship in 2022. That same year, Manny was selected as an OC All-Star and represented the South OC team. He also went undefeated in 18-Open with OCVC during the summer of 2022.
Currently a middle blocker at CSUN, Manny is pursuing a degree in Engineering Management Technology with a minor in Quality Management and Assurance. With a year of coaching experience, he is excited to help players grow both as athletes and individuals at SoCal Legends. |
Maleya Miles
Girls 14-Gold Assistant Coach
Maleya Miles joins the SoCal Legends Volleyball Club coaching staff with extensive experience in both indoor and beach volleyball. She began coaching at Top Flight Volleyball Academy in Las Vegas and later joined LAVA Beach in 2023. In 2024, she became the Head Coach beach volleyball at Chaminade College Preparatory.
Currently a full-time student-athlete for NCAA Division 1 beach volleyball at California State University, Northridge, Maleya is studying Psychology with a minor in Child and Adolescent Development, expected to graduate in 2026. She is excited to share her passion and knowledge of the game with the SoCal Legends team. |
Haley Gutierrez
Girls 13-Gold Head Coach
Haley Gutierrez brings years of playing and coaching experience to the SoCal Legends Volleyball Club coaching staff. She played club volleyball from 11s through 18s with Supernova and competed for four years at Alemany High School, where she was part of back-to-back CIF Championship teams during her junior and senior years.
Haley began her coaching career this past season with a 14s team at Supernova and is now continuing her journey at SoCal Legends. She is currently studying Sports Management and Business at California Lutheran University while playing on the JV Volleyball team. Haley is excited to bring her passion for the sport, competitive experience, and knowledge to help players grow and succeed as part of the SoCal Legends coaching team. |
Ben Cohen
Boys 17-Elite Assistant Coach
Ben Cohen joins the SoCal Legends Volleyball Club coaching staff with extensive experience as both a player and a coach. He played for NCVC from 2018-2022, competing on all the 1s teams, before joining Bay-to-Bay 18-1s, where his team placed third at the AAU 18 Open Nationals. Ben is currently a Division 1 Libero for the CSUN Men’s Volleyball team, playing under Coach Theo Edwards and continuing to excel at the collegiate level.
With three years of coaching experience, Ben helped lead his team to a third-place finish at the USAV Boys Nationals in the summer of 2024. He is excited to bring his knowledge, passion, and expertise to SoCal Legends and looks forward to becoming an integral part of the Legends family. |
Kenned Vea

Kenned Vea joins the SoCal Legends Volleyball Club coaching staff with a strong background in competitive volleyball and a passion for developing young athletes. With four years of playing experience, Kenned began his journey at SG Elite, where he helped his team secure a 2nd place medal at Nationals. Seeking to further elevate his game, he joined the 18 Elite team at SoCal Legends, a pivotal step that enriched his skills and deepened his love for the sport. Currently, Kenned is a student-athlete at Pierce College, studying kinesiology. His academic focus aligns with his dedication to understanding athlete development and performance, providing him with valuable insight into coaching. Kenned is thrilled to bring his enthusiasm, knowledge, and experience to the SoCal Legends coaching staff. Jacob Jepson
Girls 14-White Assistant Coach
Jacob Jepson joins the SoCal Legends Volleyball Club coaching staff with a passion for volleyball and a commitment to sharing his knowledge with others. Starting his volleyball journey in his junior year of high school, Jacob has gained experience playing for several clubs, culminating in his final season as a player with SoCal Legends.
This past year, Jacob assistant coached both the boys' and girls' volleyball teams at his high school, helping lead both programs to the playoffs. He is currently continuing his volleyball career at Pierce College, where he is eagerly anticipating the upcoming season. Jacob is excited to bring his love for the sport to the SoCal Legends coaching staff, helping players develop their skills and fostering their enjoyment of the game. |
Geraldine "GG" Martinez
Girls 16-White Head Coach
Geraldine "GG" Martinez brings a wealth of volleyball experience to the SoCal Legends Volleyball Club coaching staff. A lifelong player, GG was a standout at Chatsworth High School, earning All-City First Team honors four times, winning a Division One Championship, and being named Division One Player of the Year. She also excelled in beach volleyball, finishing as runner-up in the pairs competition.
GG has been part of SoCal Legends since its inception as a club player and continued her volleyball journey with one year at LA Mission College. This season, she takes on the roles of assistant coach for 15 Elite and head coach for 16 White. GG is thrilled to help her teams grow, achieve their goals, and develop a passion for the sport. She is excited for the upcoming season and looks forward to seeing the success and progress of every team at SoCal Legends. |
Marcus De Vara
Boys 16-Black Head Coach
Marcus De Vara joins the SoCal Legends Volleyball Club coaching staff with extensive playing and coaching experience. A four-year varsity player at St. Genevieve High School, Marcus also competed at the club level with Supernova and represented SoCal Legends at Nationals. Currently, he plays as a Libero for Pierce College while pursuing a nursing degree.
Marcus began his coaching journey by leading the second half of the season for the 16-Black boys' team. He is excited to continue sharing his knowledge and passion for volleyball with the next generation of players. Marcus looks forward to helping his teams grow and succeed as part of the SoCal Legends family. |
Hank Kaufman
Boys 16-Gold Assistant Coach
Nathan "Hank" Kaufman joins the SoCal Legends Volleyball Club coaching staff as a Division 1 outside hitter at CSUN with a strong playing background. Hank began his volleyball career just three years ago, quickly rising to success as a standout player at Hart High School, where he won a CIF Championship. He continued to develop his skills at Legacy Volleyball Club before earning his spot on the CSUN roster.
Currently pursuing a history major with plans to switch to kinesiology, Hank is passionate about becoming a strength trainer and supporting athlete development. He is eager to share his experiences, deepen his understanding of the game, and help players grow as part of the SoCal Legends coaching team. |
Carissa Mendez
Girls 13-Black Head Coach
Carissa Mendez is a new coach at SoCal Legends VBC, bringing a wealth of experience from both playing and officiating volleyball. Carissa played as a Setter/DS at JFKHS in high school and at Pierce College. In addition to her playing career, Carissa has experience coaching at various levels, having coached players aged 8-12 at Valley Volleyball Club in 2021 and 16 Boys at Arcadia Foothill in 2023. She is also an official for the San Fernando Unit and occasionally helps with NAIA and community college matches. Outside of volleyball, Carissa is pursuing a degree in Architecture at COC and is eager to contribute her knowledge and skills to the SoCal Legends coaching staff.

Kelly Landsman
Girls 14-Elite Assistant Coach
Kelly Landsman is a returning coach to SoCal Legends VBC, rejoining the staff in 2024 after coaching with the club since 2019. With 5 years of experience, Kelly has served as the 2023 Girls 14-Elite Head Coach, 2022 Girls 14-Elite Assistant Coach, and 2021 Girls 17-Hybrid Head Coach. She also coached the FS team at Chatsworth High School in the 2020-2021 season and was an Assistant Coach for the Girls 13-Elite team in 2019.
A 4-time All-City Libero and 2-time City Champion at Chatsworth High School under Club Director Sina Aghassy, Kelly also earned a Silver Medal at the 2018 Girls Junior National Championships with LAVA and was named to the 2018 AVCA All-American Watch List. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Interior Design from CSUN. Kelly is particularly excited about preparing the 14U age group for their transition into high school and higher levels of play, equipping them mentally, physically, and emotionally. She is committed to helping her players grow both on and off the court. |
Minh "Tu" Duong
Boys 14-Gold Head Coach
Minh "Tu" Duong brings two years of coaching experience, including serving as an assistant coach for the Koa Club team last year. A standout player during his time at Kennedy High School, Minh also represented Vietnam as a National Team Badminton player. He joined SoCal Legends Volleyball Club in 2024 as the Boys 14-Gold Head Coach. Minh is an avid player in the area, actively participating in open gyms, colleges, and various volleyball events. He is passionate about mentoring young athletes and helping them grow both on and off the court.

Brandon Ta is in his second year playing volleyball at Pierce College, where he is recognized as one of the top players in the state and is pursuing a major in sports psychology. He previously played at El Camino Real High School, earning recognition as an All-City outside hitter. Brandon joined SoCal Legends Volleyball Club in 2024 as the Girls 12-Gold Assistant Coach. With extensive experience competing for top teams across California, he brings a wealth of knowledge and passion to the program. Brandon is excited to mentor young athletes, focusing on skill development and enhancing their mental game to help them excel both on and off the court!

AIDEN "AJ" HAMMERQUIST
Girls little Legends assistant Coach
Aiden "AJ" Hammerquist is a new coach at SoCal Legends VBC, bringing a strong passion for volleyball and a love for setting. He played volleyball from 6th grade through his senior year of high school, initially starting as a libero due to being shorter than his peers. However, AJ worked hard to develop his skills, eventually transitioning to setter, a position that brought him the most joy and fulfillment. AJ's passion for volleyball began at an early age, in 6th grade, when he first played a game called "Prisoner" with friends during recess. This simple game sparked his interest in the sport, leading him to sign up for volleyball summer camp and play for his middle school team at Valley View. In addition to his volleyball experience, AJ is certified in CPR, BLS (including treatment for strokes, seizures, shock, heart attacks, and choking), and First Aid. He is also currently working on his Phlebotomy license. AJ is excited to bring his expertise and enthusiasm to the SoCal Legends VBC coaching staff.

Rylee Gonzales
Girls 17-Black Assistant Coach
Rylee Gonzales is joining the SoCal Legends VBC coaching staff with a strong background in volleyball and a passion for the sport. They started playing volleyball as a freshman at Chatsworth Charter High School, where they played for three years at the varsity level and helped secure two city championships under Club Director Sina Aghassy. Rylee recently graduated from CSUN with an honors degree in English and began playing for CSUN’s Women’s Volleyball Club during their time at university. They plan to continue playing for CSUN in the fall while pursuing a Master’s degree in English. This will be Rylee’s first coaching experience, and she is excited to begin her journey with SoCal Legends and become part of the club’s dynamic community of coaches and players.

Morgan Bolger
boys 14-elite Assistant Coach
Morgan Bolger joins the SoCal Legends VBC coaching staff with a strong background in both playing and coaching volleyball. A standout libero, Morgan played three years on Varsity at Burbank High School, graduating in 2020. Morgan attended San Diego State University, where they earned a degree in Communications and a Minor in Digital and social media studies, graduating Summa Cum Laude in 2023. In the summer of 2023, Morgan began coaching Varsity at Burbank, later becoming the Head of the program in 2024. Additionally, Morgan serves as the head coach for middle school boys and girls at Campbell and as the Varsity assistant for the high school boys. After coaching 15s at SG Elite last year, Morgan will has been coaching at Club Koa on the girls side and with Legends on the boys side. Morgan is excited to be part of teams that share a love for the sport and a drive to excel, and they find great joy in helping players grow and develop.

Choy Jimenez joins the SoCal Legends VBC coaching staff with a strong foundation in both playing and coaching volleyball. A former player at Burbank High School and SG Elite, Choy honed their skills over two years of competitive play. As a coach, Choy has spent two years mentoring young athletes, with one year each at Burbank High School, John Burroughs High School, and SG Elite. In addition to coaching, Choy is a successful Real Estate Agent with The Rise Group, the #1 team in L.A. Bringing a passion for hard work, learning, and growth, Choy is excited to contribute to the SoCal Legends team and help athletes reach their full potential in a dynamic and supportive environment.

Girls 18-Gold Assistant Coach
Alana Grospe is in her fourth year at CSUN, where she is completing a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology. A libero for the CSUN Women’s Volleyball Club, Alana brings extensive playing experience to her coaching role. She played at SoCal Legends from its inception in 2019 until she graduated in 2021, contributing to the club's early success on the 17-Elite team. During her time at Simi Valley High School, she earned second-team All-League honors as a junior. Though her senior season was impacted by COVID-19, her passion for volleyball remained strong. Alana began coaching at SoCal Legends in 2022 as one of the few alumni players who have returned to give back on the sidelines, and she is excited to help the next generation of athletes grow and succeed.

Steve Nam is joining SoCal Legends VBC as a new coach, bringing a strong background as a player and a passion for teaching the next generation of athletes. He began his volleyball journey in his freshman year at Cerritos High School, where he earned league MVP honors as the starting outside hitter for the varsity team. Steve continued his volleyball career at USC from 2012-2016, playing for the club varsity team as a starting outside hitter for four years.
Though Steve is new to coaching, his interest in mentoring others has always been present, whether through academics or sports. He is excited to embark on his coaching career with SoCal Legends, where he aims to grow as a coach and help the team achieve success, including winning medals. Steve is committed to sharing his knowledge and love of volleyball to support the development of his players. |
Nicholas "Nick" Calderon
Boys 15-Elite Assistant Coach
Nicholas "Nick" Calderon is a top club coach in Southern California, coaching one of the top 18s girls teams at City + Sports Academy and now joining SoCal Legends on the boys side as a coach with Boys 15-Elite. As an All-CIF setter in high school, Nick received offers to play Libero from Ohio State, George Mason, and Lewis University. He has an AA ranking in beach volleyball and has medaled twice in the Open Division at Nationals, along with two more medals in lower divisions.
With over seven years of coaching experience, Nick has helped develop top talent, including leading La Canada High School’s girls' team to a Division 1 State Regional Runner-Up finish in 2024. He also helps out at Burroughs HS on the boys side as a top assistant coach. He is excited to bring his skills and passion for volleyball to SoCal Legends, where he will continue to help players grow and excel. |
Genesis Mercado
Girls 15-White Assistant Coach
Genesis Mercado is excited to join the SoCal Legends VBC coaching staff and share her passion for volleyball with the next generation of athletes. She has been playing volleyball for about seven years, starting at Chatsworth High School under the guidance of Club Director Sina Aghassy. It was during her time at Chatsworth that she truly fell in love with the sport. After high school, Genesis continued to play in open gyms and leagues throughout the valley, expanding her skills and versatility across various positions.
Genesis furthered her education at Pierce College, where she earned an Associate's degree in Psychology, along with other AA degrees and a certification in preschool education. Although she is still working toward her bachelor's degree, Genesis is eager to begin her coaching journey at SoCal Legends. She looks forward to passing along the knowledge and skills she has gained as a player to help other athletes reach their potential and grow both on and off the court. |
Catelynn Pulido
Girls 17-Black Head Coach
Catelynn Pulido brings a wealth of volleyball experience and a deep commitment to athlete development as a new coach at SoCal Legends VBC. She began her volleyball journey at Taft High School from 2016 to 2017, where she showcased her versatility as a setter, outside hitter, and middle blocker. Catelynn then moved to Los Angeles Pierce College in 2018, where she played middle blocker and helped her team achieve an undefeated record in the WESTERN STATE-NORTH Conference. In 2019, she transitioned to Mount Saint Mary’s University, contributing as an outside hitter for their club team.
In 2021, Catelynn began her coaching career as an Assistant Coach at Mission College, where she worked to develop athletes and refine their skills. Simultaneously, she spent three years coaching various age groups (11’s-15’s) at Point West Mizuno Club and Los Angeles Volleyball Academy (LAVA). Alongside her coaching, Catelynn earned her B.A. in Psychology from California State University, Channel Islands, and is currently pursuing a Master’s of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy. With her passion for both volleyball and psychology, Catelynn is excited to make a positive impact on the athletes she coaches at SoCal Legends VBC. |
CASS MORAN
Girls 14-Black Assistant Coach
Cass Moran joins SoCal Legends VBC as a new coach, bringing her passion for volleyball and valuable experience. She played for three years at Chatsworth High School as a starting middle blocker under Club Director Sina Aghassy. In 2019, she was a key part of the team that won the CIF Division 1 City Championship, which fueled her love for the sport and the sense of community it provides.
After high school, Cass attended Cal Poly Pomona and will be pursuing MRI school in the upcoming year. Motivated by her passion for volleyball, Cass is excited to give back to the sport through coaching. She looks forward to helping young players develop their skills while fostering a love for the game. Cass is eager to be part of a team that values both athletic development and the community that volleyball creates. |
Derrick Lee
Girls 12-Derrick Head Coach
Derrick Lee joins the SoCal Legends VBC coaching staff with a rich background in volleyball and coaching. He played four years of varsity volleyball in high school, spending three years as an outside hitter, and has continued to play recreationally since. Derrick graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara, with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science.
Derrick has been coaching at the park level since 2015, where he has honed his skills in mentoring and developing athletes. In 2021, he led his team to victory in the city-wide All-Star Minor division at Mason Park, showcasing his ability to guide players to success. Derrick is excited to bring his passion for the sport and experience in coaching to SoCal Legends, where he looks forward to helping players grow both on and off the court. |
Wilson GUiterrez
Girls 14-Gold head coach
Wilson Gutierrez is joining SoCal Legends VBC with a wealth of coaching and professional experience. He is currently the Head Coach at Chaminade Middle School and previously served as the JV Head Coach at Bishop Alemany High School. His club coaching experience includes working with the 12's team at Supernova All-Stars Volleyball Club.
Outside of coaching, Wilson is a dedicated healthcare executive and has a passion for mentorship and leadership. He has led summer volleyball clinics for elementary and middle school athletes, focusing on developing fundamental skills and fostering a love for the sport. A graduate with a degree in Business Management, Wilson brings a well-rounded perspective to the game and is excited to contribute to the growth and success of players at SoCal Legends VBC. He also has two daughers (Haley) who coaches with Legends and (Abbie) who plays in our club currently! |
Charlie Maranan
boys 12-Elite Assistant Coach
Charlie Maranan is a new addition to the SoCal Legends VBC coaching staff. A standout middle blocker during his time at Fairfax High School, Charlie earned two First Team All-City selections and helped lead his team to a 3A Division City title in 1995. With over 30 years of involvement in volleyball, including high school, college intramurals, and adult leagues, Charlie brings a wealth of experience and passion to the court.
In the 2023-24 season, Charlie served as the assistant coach for the 12 Elite Boys, where he found joy in teaching and mentoring young athletes, helping them grow both on and off the court. His son Brayden, who was the starting setter for the 12E Boys, and his two daughters, who are poised to join the Legends family in the future, are all part of his volleyball journey. Additionally, Charlie also coaches basketball, further showcasing his commitment to developing athletes in multiple sports. Charlie holds a Bachelor's Degree in Social Sciences from the University of California, Irvine, and is excited to continue his coaching career with SoCal Legends, fostering the next generation of volleyball talent. |
Joel Brinton
BOYS 15-ELITE HEAD Coach
Joel Brinton is a top-tier volleyball coach joining SoCal Legends VBC, bringing years of experience and a remarkable coaching career. As the Head Coach at John Burroughs High School, he founded the program in 2007 and led the team to league titles every year from 2010 to 2022. During his tenure, Joel’s teams reached the CIF Southern Section Finals twice and secured a CIF State Championship in Division 2 in 2016. He is recognized as one of the top boys’ volleyball coaches in the state, with notable wins over powerhouse programs such as Mira Costa and Corona Del Mar during the 2022 season.
In addition to his high school success, Joel coached for 6 years at SG Elite Volleyball Club, where he played a significant role in sending many players to Division 1 collegiate volleyball programs at schools like UCLA, Stanford, and Harvard. His teams also won numerous medals, including a gold and silver at Nationals. A graduate of CSUN with a degree in Liberal Studies focused on Math, Joel currently teaches Data Science at John Burroughs High School. With his vast coaching background, Joel is excited to embark on a new chapter at SoCal Legends, where he looks forward to mentoring players and contributing to the development of the next generation of volleyball talent. |
