Frequently asked Questions
Do I need to come to the Main Tryouts? What if I only can attend the Makeups?
We strongly recommend attending the Main Tryouts. Space on our teams is not guaranteed to remain past the primary tryout session. If you have a conflict, it is important to contact our Club Director (Sina Aghassy) to let our staff know you cannot attend the Main Tryouts, but will be there for Makeup. The director's email is [email protected].
Should I arrive early?
We recommend arriving at least15 minutes early. There can sometimes be a line at check in and you will need to have time to get your t-shirt and change into it.
How do tryouts work?
Our tryout process is structured. There is a warm-up portion, followed by skills repetitions to show the athletes' grasp of fundamental techniques, followed by organized game-like scenarios. At the end of tryouts, the Director will address the group of athletes and their parents. After tryouts, the Director and coaches will be available for further conversation.
Is everyone offered a spot?
No. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer everyone who attends tryouts a spot due to limited roster sizes. In some age divisions we might only have one team, while in others we might have as many as two or three. It is possible all athletes in a given division will be able to find a home on one of our teams or in our program, but it is also possible we will have to make cuts.
When will I know if I have made it to a team?
The Director and coaches will talk to some players on-site during tryouts, as well as in the gym right after tryouts are over. However, most players will receive a phone call from the Director or coach either that same day (Saturday) of the main tryouts, or the following day Sunday to let athletes know where they stand. If you are not selected for a team, you will receive an email by the beginning of the following week.
What do I do if I am offered a spot?
You can choose to accept or decline the offer. Hopefully, attending tryouts means you have already discussed with your parents exactly what it means to play club volleyball - it can be a significant time and monetary commitment. If your parents are on board and you want to accept the offer, you give your verbal commitment to play. The verbal commitment is very important to us; it is you giving us your word that you commit to play on our team and it is us giving you our word that we will hold a spot for you. Welcome to SoCal Legends Volleyball Club!
After I commit, what happens?
On Commitment Day (either the Sunday or Tuesday after main tryouts), you are allowed to sign your official Commitment Letter and make your season deposit. There will be a deadline to do this so your spot is secure. Your spot is not confirmed until this is completed. You will receive an email with all the details of what you need to sign and submit, including your deposit.
I submitted my Commitment Letter, now what?
Wait for word from our admins! There will be a kick-off event not long after tryouts to size uniforms, turn in paperwork, etc. We will keep you posted through email. Welcome to SoCal Legends!
